You can’t make this stuff up:
A Conway homeowners association and two of its residents are being sued after a pet pig attacked a homeowner.
This comes to us from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where an HOA finds itself being a bit hog-tied over a pig named Lulu.
Paul Soucy is accusing Maple Ridge Estates Homeowners Association of failing to protect him from the pig, which is not allowed according to the HOA’s bylaws, according to the lawsuit filed on June 4. The bylaws prevent residents from owning and housing farm animals, such as pigs, the suit said.
What to do about these things? I’ve heard from board leaders in our chapter meetings who tell me about residents who harbor snakes, spiders, rabid dogs, litters of cats and if memory serves, a pet alligator. Like in this case, most bylaws likely have something to say about such animals on HOA properties.
So what happened to provoke the wayward pig’s attack?
Soucy was on a public roadway and sidewalk when Lulu ran from the defendants. Soucy attempted to help get the pig back to Derek Davis, the suit said. However, the pig, unprovoked, charged and attacked Soucy, the suit alleges.
There were injuries involved. A quick google search finds that pigs can become quite aggressive if threatened or agitated, and fatalities have been known to occur. Who knew?
Now there’s a lawsuit filed by the attacked resident against the HOA residents who own Lulu. Essentially the suit claims the Davises should have taken steps to control the pig to prevent it from “aggressively” pursuing him and attempting to bit and attack him, as well as warn others that there was an aggressive pig in the home.
Like we say at our chapter meetings: There’s always something.
