Sink hole

Our usual gander around the world wide web isn’t revealing any interesting HOA news of late due to the upcoming holidays, except this recent story from Atlanta did make us stop and look. An HOA in Decatur, Georgia, has a rather unusual problem that the board and association have been apparently wrestling with for years: Sink holes.

There’s now a new sink hole that residents are particularly unhappy about. The new one that appeared recently is estimated to be 30 feet deep and 30 feet wide, and apparently, it has a sewage drainage issue that requires the hole to be pumped out regularly. (Maybe it’s just me, but I’m thinking the sink holes are the least of this HOA’s worries.)

By the way, the image above is not the actual HOA, but is a simulated AI generated shot. But the news story below showed the sink hole in question and it’s not too far off.

The board has been patching the problem for years, but like wack a mole, they keep coming back. The HOA’s own estimates for repair are now $100K, and the board has signaled that they are going to raise fees to pay for the repairs. We don’t know what their financials look like, but assuming they don’t have enough in reserve to cover this, it’s likely their only option.

Take a look at this story from Atlanta First News and ask yourself: What would you do?
