Cooked HOA Goose?

June 16, 2026 | Mark Luis Foster

I realize this could be a touchy subject, especially when animals are in danger. So I did pause when I saw this article that has sparked protests about an HOA in Alabama that plans to destroy flocks of geese for their rather egregious but natural behavior.  From 48WAFF:

Over 200 geese would be killed in the Edgewater neighborhood if the HOA board goes forward with their plan.

Sounds like the birds are overwhelming the HOA and its grounds. Apparently it’s not their first “rodeo.”  The association disposed of some 200 geese in 2020. But it sounds like the board did its research, and in fairness, a federal opinion recommends extermination in some cases.

According to HOA board members, the USDA has made recommendations on how to remove the geese and they include hiring an exterminator.

The effort revolves around safety and the collection of feces that litters the area. But protesters are (sorry) flocking to make their case:

One protester drove almost an hour to have her voice heard and offered several alternatives, including humane horns that scare the geese off, switching eggs for fake ones so they don’t repopulate in the area, and relocating the geese to Wheeler Wildlife down the road.

Sort of reminds me of the Emu Wars in Australia, when a whole nation turned on those critters and declared war. (Yes, it was a real thing.)
