We see a lot of incidents where HOAs are forced to fine residents due to rule violations. That why we have rules, and residents can definitely avoid the fines by abiding by such rules. Now comes this story from (wait for it) Las Vegas.  From CW3 TV:

Brent Saba, a veteran, longtime firefighter and fire inspector, says he was cited by his HOA for displaying three vintage, non-operational fire hydrants in front of the home he lives in.

We thank the man for his service to our country. But what’s up the hydrants?

“This hydrant right here, I brought this fire hydrant home from Iraq. I served over in Iraq for about a year, year and a half or so. So that one there was a special piece,” Saba said.

The board objected and cited him. They informed him to send in an architectural request (which is frankly, odd).

According to Saba, the HOA told him he needed to apply for approval to keep the hydrants in place. He says he submitted an application along with written comments from neighbors supporting the display, but it was still denied.

The board apparently cited a rule related to storage items in front and side yard landscaping as part of the violation.

Now I’m no expert but I have to believe there’s a solution there somewhere. Of course, without really seeing the problem, it’s a tough call.  The article’s photos don’t really do it justice.

See for yourself HERE.
